How to Construct a Loom & Start Weaving:

My grand daughter Jillian asked me about weaving, after seeing a prayer rug I was finishing up. She
lives in Indiana, so I made a dvd for her (and my grand daughter Lydia) for Christmas a few years ago. I
edited it down to make this introduction to Weaving 101. I really needed a person on camera, but Christmas
was coming...so I did the best I could. It took alot of takes and by the end of the third day, I was a wreck.
Don't be afraid if I look strange, I'm not a witch (hahaha) Now a friend asked me for
a copy of the dvd. So I made this dvd. Then I thought, welll, maybe it would be nice to share it.
Weaving is very helpful in slowing me down for a couple of hours. I can think clearly and deeply while I'm
weaving. I find it helpful to invite my ancestral grandmothers to sit with me while I weave, so they can
quide me in matters, beyond my understanding. Weaving then, is not just a physical activity, but a
transcendental experience.
There are three parts to this video. Part 1 is construction
of a loom and preparing to weave with a short demonstration of weaving. Part 2 shows how a mistake
in weaving is corrected and the importance of correcting one's mistakes. Part 3 is just going over
some points and showing how to finish a piece with a little showcasing of some of my prayer rugs. I'm an amateur.
The main thing with weaving a prayer rug of faith, patience or mercy...is that, every row is
a horizon. One must try to keep the horizon level as well as inwardly coming in sync with the forces of creation.
So each row is a challenge to one's character... is one learning the lessons life presents... .Sit up
straight and breathe. Think LOVE and it will come ...from within each heart, batted down and strong.
